5" is really high...try practicing with 3 or 4" first so you can get used to it and work your way up to 5". make sure the shoes fit you like a glove or if they have straps that all the straps are tight so your ankles are sturdy - that is how you would most likely fall if your ankles were wobbly. also, its a good idea to bring the shoes to a shoe repair place and have them scuff the bottoms so they aren't as slick on tile floors (like the grocery store) so they will grip the ground better and you are less likely to fall. also- at least one day or more a week wear flats or a kitten heel because it is not good for your ankles or knees to wear high heels every day.

practice a lot! at first it may hurt your ankles and feet but once you get used to it will be ok.

and also dont wear really strappy heels with short skirts or it will look trashy and striper-ish

uhh, i'm not sure if you should. i read in a magazine to wear 2'' - 5'' shoes 4 - 6 hrs. maybe you should put soft pads under the balls of your feet.

Practice at home on the carpet. cuz if you can walk in heel on the carpet you can walk in heels. remember heel to toe.

what is keeping you from doing this? are you having trouble walking in them? just be careful, take smaller steps, and use the handrail whenever possible.
