Tom - what you need to do is check the weather secton in your local paper. Sunrise and sunset times are generally given there. If you go on-line I would search under sunset times. This will get you to a set of tables with sunset/sunrise times versus latitude or hometown. Here is one such calculator. Just cut and paste into your browser.
