i'm gonna buy a new 80gb hard drive for my dell. how do i get my operating system onto the hard disk without having to buy the operating system.

Easiest way out is to install the new drive as an additional drive, make it a slave to your existing drive or if you have one put it on your secondary IDE channel.

when you bought your dell it should of came with a disk(operating system,drivers), just pop it in once you have installed hard drive, then install it. If you don't have a disk call Dell and they can send you one for about $20.00

If you have a rescue disk you can use that.... Or you coould try a free operating system like Linux. http://ubuntu.com

Dell should prvide it for free if you have the right papers etc.
