I’m not sure if you can help or not, but I have a quick question. I am trying to find a character introduced in or around September of 1981. The closest character I could find was Jack ‘O lantern. I do not have a name, I’m just curious.

This is a shot in the dark, but one of my favorite characters created around that time was called The Taskmaster, and he fought the Avengers almost to a standstill in his first appearance.

There were a number of Marvel characters with the name Jack, or jack-o-lantern themes in their costumes (the Hobgoblin used to throw little exploding jack-o-lanterns, IIRC.)
Your best bet is to go to the Marvel Directory on line and go through the list of heroes. If the one you want is not there, it is probably a villain.
You could also try Toonopedia, though if you are sure it is a Marvel character, best to go directly to the source. Good luck!
