Who is this seasons nba defensive player of the year?

i would lean toward's Tim Duncan since he's the anchor of the best defensive team in the NBA. Bruce bowen's defense is better because he has Duncan to protect the middle. It seems like their is no clear cut front runner for this year's award.

You're absolutely right there is no clear cut winner this year. Usually Ben Wallace would be my overwhelming favorite but his defensive stats have seriously gone down. That being said I would go with either Tim Duncan, Shawn Marion, or Raja Bell. I put Marion and Bell in the conversation because their defense is greatly underrated simply because they're on a team that as a whole plays no defense

If you look at the award teamwise, Tim Duncan is a solid and favorite candidate. The NBA, however, considers the statistics more than team accomplishment. In that case, I still think that Duncan will be a good candidate, but I think Josh Smith will be the favorite. My top 3 are Tim Duncan, Shawn Marion, and Josh Smith, in any order.
Smith is averaging: 8.4 rebounds, 3 blocks(he is a small forward,) and 1.5 steals. He is averaging more blocks than most forwards and centers in the league. Duncan is averaging: 10.8 rebounds, .8 steals, and 2.3 blocks. Still solid. Marion is averaging: 10.2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1.6 blocks. Make your pick.

I would have to go with Shane Battier. He always gets the toughest defensive assignments no matter who he plays, takes charges, blocks shots, and just rattles his opponents. Obviously, he doesn't get enough credit for it, so he won't win the award.
