If I had six months, I'd probably do C++. That's the most useful for the games industry, or for making software over the shelf. Half Life or Sim City type stuff, as well as making Photoshop or a Spreadsheet.
If you want to specialize in the Internet though, I'd go for JSP, as there's a huge demand for that. Maybe also Ruby on Rails, if you can understand complex stuff. I've been offered jobs in those even though I don't understand them, the demand is that great. But C++ is easier to learn, and I think more fun.
Java is also in demand (JSP is like advanced java sorta)... other Java related technologies are being used. I'm not too sure about it's future outside of advanced things like J2ee and JSP though.
And if you like animation and advertisement, then it's actionscript. That's how you do those online games, like those Orbitz adverts where you play golf or the ones you have to shoot the ducks etc. Huge demand and salaries there too.
So, C++(software), JSP/Java/Struts(internet) or Actionscript/Javascript/PHP (advertising), depending on which industry you want to work in. If you know any of those three well, the others will come naturally.
Html is not a language, it takes about a week to learn (I'm a certified expert in it, know every tag in my sleep, it's a monkey's language). CSS may take two weeks. Web design is a dead end job like filmmaker or writer (and it's more artist than programmer anyway), web development is where the money is.

Everything is technology is moving toward transactions and communication via the internet. Pick a web application programming language like Asp.net, Coldfusion, or Java. Make sure you understand standard database concepts and how websites interact with them to allow for a dynamic experience as opposed to static.

I would go with HTML [Hyper Text Mark-Up LAnguage] there are a lot of facinating carrers that deal with computers and you need to know this for a lot of them. I partially know this language and it is not dificult. Some jobd like a web designer can pay out to 75,000 a year.
