the pc told me i had to download a new version i tryed and it said it can not

Go int internet options,click on advanced,scroll down to enable java script ,And tick the boxes.Then look on you home page for games,daily crossword ,Click on that and you will get updates for java script,it worked for me.

In Internet Explorer to enable javascript, go to Tools > Internet Options > Internet > Security > Custom Level > Scripting > Active Scripting > Enable > OK > Yes > OK.
Please note: the other answerers are refering to JAVA, not javascript as you asked. Java and javascript are not the same!

Go to the Start menu - Control Panel - Java and mess with the settings on that.
