Does anyone know a "home remedy" to get rid of ants in the house.?

I have two older cats and one kitten and tons of ants. I don't want to use any of the products you can buy in the store because of the cats. I used to know of a mixture you made of stuff around the house but I can't remember it.

sprinkle corn meal along their little track. they cannot digest it and die.

They hate black pepper.sprinkle it where you find them entering.
