I am deciding between either chemical engineering or mechanical engineering with a concentration in thermofluids. What would you suggest as the best choice/more interesting major?? What about career options after I graduate??

I'm currently a college student transferring to either of these majors so I don't have time to try one out and switch if I don't like it.

Career options aren't directly related to your degree. Only your first job might be.

From the thermofluids concentration, it sounds to me like you're more interested in the chemical side of things. So I'd advice chemical engineering for you. Myself, I'd prefer mechanical, but that's because I like playing with things, not substances.

since both fields are technology related, there is no way of determining the future of either. As advancements come, one may have a burst of work (as the Internet created a load of work for programmers, the personal computer for computer repairmen, etc).

Only steady fields that aren't innovation dependent, like hairdressing, security and teaching, are predictable (and even with teaching, the subjects in demand is not predictable).

You don't want to get in try out and switch because you're wasting time and money taking all these classes. You want to go in a field that's in high demand and you need to check your prospects carefully before you start applying to schools and declaring majors. Before you transfer look at the demand for each career area.

I'm sorry I don't have the specific answer you are looking for, but I have 56 years of wisdom and am a recently retired teacher. Consider for a bit, what do you really want out of life ? Our entire society and educational system focuses on money, but money cannot buy happiness, and it definitely cannot buy your health back if you lose it to stress working to make money at a job you don't enjoy or is too stressful for you. I'm just trying to get you to include this, as at your age I didn't and society doesn't usually encourage this. I loved teaching, and gave it my all, but lost my health completely so now ..................... it was not worth it. The job was just too stressful but I was trying my best to be a good teacher and a good single mom. Yes, God is taking care of me, but it still helps to consider this issue. Hope this helps.
