It would take an HONEST interpretator to be able to ENGAGE the two countries into talking, but, as things are, there is NO TRUST between America and Iran. Without trust how can one build a relationship ? I guess there is a lot of focusing on the past leaderships in both countries, and its hard to say where it will all lead.....perhaps Japan or/and China could engage all to talks ? With Iran pulling the British move....they sure have instigated ALL western governments ! It was not a good idea to do this, and I sincerely hope the British do NOT back down from Iran, or give in to trading peoples, etc. I know that most American Soldiers would NOT want their country to give in to terrorism ! I doubt the brits expect that either. Iran has funded terrorism for a long time. They do have grand history and an ancient nation, but, I do not feel that makes them superior in anyway. They assume that a martyrdom nation can RULE THE WORLD. Thats dangerous thinking. They see HISTORY in one way, and our government sees it in another way, but in no way should that man step foot on our soil, and ever leave it ! He was and is guilty of holding hostages in the embassy there !
Any MEN that want to rule entire nations and peoples, is looking for consistent chaos and death around the world, and eventually it will catch up to those who attempt such an imperfect design and LACK OF ORDER !!

Its true, we have a terrible history with the government of Iran.
Also, Iran is sandwiched between two countries that the U.S. has attacked. Then they were named as part of the "axis of evil". "If you're not with us, you're against us". Very undiplomatic statements. Regretable statements.

Will there ever be dialog with the Bush administration? Very doubtful. In one of your links, the Iranian leader actually gives the U.S. credit for having more sense than to attack them. I believe, at some point, with the next president, and as long as Bush doesn't attack Iran first, there will be dialog between the countries. I believe that is inevitable. Threats are counterproductive especially at this point. We were able to talk with Russia during the cold war after many attempts. We can do it again if we aren't dissuaded with a lot of foolish propaganda.

It can happen,
but the U.S. needs to come down off of it's high horse before the horse gits shot and eaten.
WE need world peace.
If we don't contribute to that there will be world war.
At the rate we're going , most of you won't live long enough to die from natural causes, and will most likely be drafted to help feed this never ending war that the gov wants.
It's up to YOU to act.
So far we know what the gov wants. They're like bullies in a school yard. They want to control everything, own everything and take everything, steal if necessary.
THAT will not do.
This is a tiny tiny planet we have and it's running thin.
If WE don't vote the bloodthirsty GOP out of office, it will be YOUR blood they'll be drinking next.
If you have any doubts, look at 9/11.
9/11 was planned by the PNAC years before it happended.

America needs to abide by the international agreements it has made.

"compromise on view of the world"? There's no reason we should -- why does everyone have to have one and only one view of the world?

The only view we all need to share is "live and let live" -- which the US has refused to do for over a century now -- taking territories and ruling them against the will of the people in them, toppling popular governments and supporting murderous torturing brutes in their place, and now we're mass-murderers, torturers, and rapists.

The world has signed off on may international agreements, and even a Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The question is, when is America going to live up to the agreements it's already made?

If we hadn't been supporting terrorist governments, and hurting the people in the Middle East, they wouldn't hate us.

Iran has a long-standing case against the U.S. due to our abuses of human rights there (Shah of Iran, who we put into power and kept in power for decades, while he murdered and tortured Iranians -- then left with the national treasury).

If your sister had been raped and tortured, wouldn't you hate the people responsible?

It's pretty simple, really.

The United States is not concerned with getting an understading with Iran or any other Middle-Eastern country. In this western hemisphere, we are just concerned with who doesn't do our bidding. After all, we're (US, France, UK, Germany....) the supper powers of this world. We rule! We're cool, we know what this world " needs" and no rag-wearing, weird-speaking, uneducated arab is going to tell us what is best for HIS country, let alone ours or the world.
An understanding? No, we dictate, they abide. Very simple.
And if they don't get it, well...A couple of thousand-pound-bombs can surely rattle their mind, if not change it.
Is it clear now to you what kind of understanding we want with Iran? or do I have to draw you a picture?

America can't. Iran has a terrorist for a president and he's only out to kill the west (America) and Israel. There is no hope for Iran until they get that terrorist out of their government and they are trying to. They are trying to vote him out 18 months early. Even the Iranian government doesn't want him there.

Why does the US government need to reach an understanding with Iran? If you look at the big picture, Iran is a bit player.

It cant, any more than we can reason with the insurgents trying to drive us from Iraq. The islamic fanatics that always seem to be in a position of great power, wnat nothing less than our death, and the United States to disappear form the face of the planet. President Bush knows this, most republican congressman know this, and some democrats admit to knowing it, and now you know it. There is no reasoning with someone whos every waking thought is to destroy you.

Let them not deal with each other...

USA is a bully and the Iranians are trying to defend themselves against a warmonger aggressor.
