In the United States many people think British or Australian Accents sound cool and sometimes imitate them. Do people in other parts of the world imitate American Accents? Also what does an American Accent sound like?

Yeah, some people do think certain American accents are cool. A lot of English people love the way Jerry Hall, Mick Jagger's ex from Texas, spoke. The Duke of Windsor used to try to speak with an American accent.
Personally I find any affected accent annoying...

I like hearing the British accent. I've never heard an American trying to imitate the British accent. I know foriegners love America's lifestyle and like to inmitate Americans in everything; speaking, clothes, music, cars and especially the hollywood movies, etc.. Having lived overseas, I found where I was, the people there preferred to learn English from an American than from a British. They wanted to learn to speak the way Americans spoke. An American accent sounds like? Gee, I wouldn't know. I can tell when an American isn't from California. I can hear their Jersey accent, or southern accent....Anybody here an expert an Linguistics?

In West Africa, it's all the rage to imitate British and American accents....I guess they think it sounds cute.

I'm not sure exactly what the accent sounds like, but it's certain stresses on certain words, etc. etc.

There s no such element as a British accessory. Britain is created from 4 international places: Scotland, England, Northern eire and Wales yet when I had to respond to, i might say the southern English accessory

Which American dialect? Eastern? Downeastern? Midwestern? East Coast southern? Central midwest? Southwestern? "Cowboy?" (Imitation western used in "country/western music"). Then we get Brooklynese, Chicago style, Bahstin (Boston), Valley (California-girl-speak), etc., etc.

Yes, other countries think we have an American accent. I've been in a few foriegn countries and they always say they could tell I was American by my accent. From what I've been told an American accent is loud and ignorant, sometimes short.

American accents vary from region to region, city to city, town to town - much like anywhere else in the world.

The American accent is by far the slang-est of all. They like to shorten the lengths of words. Somebody here said and i agree with him you need watch movies with more concentration.
