I have a 95 mitsubishi eclypse. I have had a tune up, oil change, and ingnition module cleaned. I just had a fuel pump put in it this past moday. What was happenning was that i would drive about an hour and it would shut off not stall just shut off. Now i drove it yestorday and the rpm would want to go up... i would be steady with the gas and the needle would move up and then down not past 1rpm then i got to a stop sign and it just died again. what could be going on?

did you change the gas filter when you changed the fuel pump?it could be half plugged and not letting enough gas come through sometimes.another thing, check the fuel pump regulator.it could be sticking and not regulating the gas.mr know is right, you cant just clean the module, when they go bad,you have to replace them.

Many things could cause that but since fuel pump replacement altered symptoms, it looks like related to fuel system. Wild guess - fuel pressure regulator?

i own a repair shop, and the rpm,s going up and down on it can be caused by a bad tps, sensor on it,or an oxygen sensor, what they need to do is scan it really good, and fix it right this time, you have already payed to have it fixed once,id take it back and tell them i wanted it fixed, and it shouldn't cost you this time, some shops like repeat business,by not completely repairing one like it should be done,it works out to be good for them ,but bad for the customer, make them find and repair it right this time, good luck,i hope this helps.

replace the module, with a different mechanic, ask for the old part aftermath.

ask the new mechanic, to check for vaccum leaks ,before any work done.
