For example, there have been Fantasy books about magic, and dragons and such.

What other Fantasy creatures/topics would you like to read about?

Well, technically the next one that i'd like to see is "A Dance with Dragons" by George R.R. Martin. But since that isn't what you meant, I shan't go into that.

I think that most fantasy concepts have been done already. People don't get readers if they make up completely new worlds populated by nothing ever heard of before. DSure, Tolkein kinda did, but he used the folklore and stuff, and his characters were humanoid. That's another thing- you have to have characters that the reader can relate to, and all. And then all of the cliches in plots...

Again, I am not answering your question, am I? To actually get on topic- I think that utopian/ dystopian societies are always fun, maybe ones in which a human travels to the kind of world that she's always dreamed of which theoretically solves Earth's problems, but of course creates new ones(In a not already done way). Books taking place in faerie are great, very fun reads. The world needs more good werewolf books, though whether or not there are werewolf plots left is a debatable topic. Dragons and elves are overdone, as are vampires, but there's obviously still a market for stories about them. Ooh, I have a good idea! Something from a fantasy land comes here, except you could write it as a human going to another land and see if anyone catches on!
Few more fun things: retold faerie tales that no one ever does (try skimming some book of them for some story that seems completely unfamiliar) are always welcome. As for creatures, I own a book of every fantasy creature in folklore (supposedly) so you could get one of those and flip through for an inspiring creature.

I'm sorry that my answer was so off topic! I would agree that magic and dragons are overdone, but everything in fantasy kinda is.

There are actually four 'different types' of Fantasy books as far as I'm concerned:
1. 'Standard' or 'old fashioned' fantasy such as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and C.S. Lewis's Narnia Series.
2. 'Funny' fantasy, such as the books by Terry Pratchett.
3. 'Crossover' fantasy, in which an 'earth human' becomes trapped in a Fantasy world and his 'quest' is the only thing that will (possibly) get him 'home' again.
4. 'Animal' fantasy, where there may or may not be some 'human' characters, but the 'primary' characters are 'talking animals' who usually have 'magical powers.'
Those are 'very basic' books, and there are several that actually 'cross over' themselves and could 'fit' in one, two, three, or even 'all four' categories.
I actually think that there is such a 'deep well of ideas' available in these categories that any 'new' or even an 'established' fantasy writer would be doing the 'reading world' a 'disservice' to go any 'farther afield' ... but as soon as I write that down here, someone, somewhere, will have 'the perfect idea' for a new book in a totally 'new' fantasy category, and write it, and I'll go out and buy it, and read it and LOVE IT ... so the best answer I can give you is 'write from your heart' and you will find readers to enjoy your book ... without having to 'take a poll' here in Yahoo!Answers.

examine the Inheritance sequence!! additionally noted by way of fact the Eragon sequence. that is truly boring on the commencing up, yet, have faith me, it gets soooo plenty greater advantageous. each e book contained in the sequence so some distance is larger than the final. Eragon is the 1st e book, then that is Eldest, and then that is Brisingr. A fourth one is popping out TBA!! Christopher Paolini, the author, is extremely gifted and artistic. each and all of the names contained in the sequence are truly unique and multiple them are stressful to pronounce, yet do no longer concern, there's a pronunciation handbook contained in the decrease back of the e book. :D do no longer supply up on the sequence in simple terms by way of fact Eragon would look somewhat boring on the commencing up and you in ordinary terms think of that is lame even although you have by no ability attempted analyzing it. i became the comparable way, and that i'm soooo happy my chum made me examine it by way of fact that is between the superb sequence i've got examine. :D
