What makes them so much fun? What makes them better or worse? What should you always do on road trips? Thanks!

great people and great music make the road trip what it is. Also...drive through someplace where you can actually stand looking out the window...unless you're really that into 100 miles of wheat. You always need to blast the music, sing at the top of your lungs, laugh a lot, stop anywhere that looks interesting, and load up on your favourite junk foods to toss around the car

Southern California road trips are usually spur of the moment get up and gos. A full sized van is the preferred vehicle. Do not bring extra clothes, set out in any direction and see where you end up. For all but the driver you must have a 30 gallon cooler filled with ice and the real Coors and Budweiser. Someone must, at least once, moon a deserving vehicle or roadside group of people.

Road trips, if taken with the right person, can be a load of fun!! A childhood friend of mine and I took one last fall - a "leaf peeping" tour of New England - and had a ball just driving and talking and singing and checking out the scenery. We had time to "hang out" instead of rushing around in one town doing touristy things.
