Like how did the earth look like?

It was a geologic time period millions of years before the time of the dinosaurs. Earth was a very different place back then. No birds, no flowering plants, different climate, different atmosphere, different lifeforms (lots of different types of prehistoric fish, etc).

Devonian is sometimes referred to as the Age of Fish, because of the divergence of new species and their abundance. Many new predatory fish appeared, driving the evolution of many prey items as well.
