I know women can take 30 a little harder than us guys, but thirty is still quite young! Heck, I look better in my thirties than I did in my twenties. But, I digress...

My birthday falls on Labor day weekend, and there are usually lots of nice days left. Every year, I go hike a fourteen-er (I'm in Colorado, there are a lot of those here). Anyhow, the hike I usually do takes about 5-6 hours round trip-and by the time I'm done my body is wore-out and my brain has reflected/ projected/ planned/ re-planned/ analyzed/ remembered just about all it cares to. After that, I usually head home, take a shower and a nice afternoon nap, and then either have a nice leisurely dinner with some friends or kick back and catch a great flick along with a pint or two of something dark and tasty.

I think they key attributes of a great birthday are:

1. Get out of your normal routine.

2. Do something that gives you time and space to reflect/ introspect/ consider/ wonder.

3. Shake things up a little... do something different. Rent a car and drive up to Vancouver. Go see the San Juan Islands. Take you digital camera to a beautiful place and don't stop shooting until you have 200 pictures.

4. After your done with your "hard" work, pamper yourself a bit. Take a nap. Eat iced-creme. Get a massage/ pedicure/ manicure/ facial/ spa-treatment.

5. Meet those friends out for a great dinner. Cook and stay in, and have a great dinner. Uncork that bottle of red that you've been saving. Phone your friends and tell them you miss 'em.

6. At the end of the day, consider the day you've just had... and make a mental note to keep up the tradition!

My thirties have been great, and here's hoping yours are too!

I'm 32, and I dreaded my 30th. It just seemed like I had to lose my carefree attitude and become serious. So, I wore a killer black dress and had a very fancy dinner. I drank a glass of red wine, instead of the usual beer, and then went home to bed. But actually, being in my 30's is kind of cool. We are WOMEN......

Have fun!

Turning 25 was much harder on me.
I wasn't married, yet & I hadn't accomplished anything I thought I would by that age. By the time I hit 30 it was all smooth sailing & I spent the whole weekend partying in Vegas.

Let's see, I had to work that night, but I drank a bottle of champagne at work. Then I went home and gave myself a pedicure. It was highly uneventful.
