My son has had two ear infections he is almost 7 months old. When he got his first ear infection back in Feb. and he went back for his two week check up there was still fluid in the ears. Now his infection was only in one ear but fluid was present in both at the 2 weeks check up...Now it is the end of March and he has a double ear infection. The doctor told me the fluid looks like it never left from the first one. I am very concern about this because my husband had very bad ear problems as a child. Over 10 sets of tubes and hearing loss because of fluid in his ears for soo long. At what age did your child get tubes and how many infections did your child have before he got tubes.

My daughter got tubes at about 13 months old. She had numerous ear infections but what made us decide to go ahead and do the surgery is the fact that she got an infection that never really cleared up over the course of a few months and a lot of antibiotics. After the tubes we had one more ear infection but it just drained, which is what the tubes are supposed to do, and she was never in any pain or needed an antibiotic for it. She is almost 2 1/2 now and has not had any more ear infections and the doctor tells us every visit that her ears look great! I know it is such a scary thing for parents but it really was the best thing for us. Good luck!

My little boy, Noah had lots of problems with his ears when he was a baby. He typically would get ear infections every other month, year round, and they were always in both ears. He eventually outgrew it after he was about 18 months old. The doctor had said during the last one that if he had gotten it again, then we might consider tubes. I think most MD's like to stray away from tubes unless it's completely neccessary these days. Try not to worry. My son is now three and hasn't had an ear infection in almost two years.

My son was 5 when he got tubes placed. He had repeated ear infections for a good while, and like you, I didn't want to put him through surgery. But he had an infection about every other month. We tried all of the antibiotics, some kind of shot and he still got them. So we tried one more round of antibiotics......and they made it go away. He went 2 months w/o an infection, but eventually had tubes put in and hasn't had one since.

It's honestly not such a bad surgery. The worst part for my son was coming out of the anesthesia. He was up running and playing about an hour after it. The sooner you catch it though, usually the better it is.

my daughter had multiple infections in both ears ears before her 1st birthday. Her pediatrician recommended tubes and on her 1st birthday she had them put in. We had no problems, I remember like it was yesterday, we brought her home from the procedure and when she woke up I was sure she would be fussy and in pain, she woke up so happy and ran around the house playing like nothing ever happen. And after 2 years her tubes fell out, but it was long enough to let her own tube grow to size and drain it self. I say go for it, it will save alot a pain for the both of you. Good Luck.

Honestly, your situation doesn't sound too bad.

Many ENT's won't even think about doing tubes before 6 or 7 ear infections.

But, I would still suggest getting an appointment with an ENT.

One of my children had the same thing happen ..where the fluid just never left and it became reaccuring. Eventually it cleared up on its own and that was 2 years ago and he has been fine since.

be very careful about having the thought of tubes in your babys ears... i had terrible ear infection and had to have tubes 5 times well the wholes from the tubes never closed up like they were suppose to and it left my eardrums trashed.. i ended up having to have fake eardrums put in my ears and the old ones removed///MOST PAINFUL EXPERIANCE OF MY LIFE. giving birth to my son wasnt even close to that pain of the new eardrums.

I know this may sound weird, but you might want to consider a chiropractor for your baby. I have seen messages from parents who said the infections stopped shortly after the treatments began.
