hi i have been told to buy a foundation which is almost identical to my skin colour because foundation should never be seen so to buy one which is my skins colour. However, my skin is very pale and greyish so i brought a couple of foundations in my skin tone/colour but i just look like a pale goth so i brought some darker ones but they looked too orange i dont think my skin tone matches any :(
what should i do??

You are not trying to block out your entire face when using a foundation...just use one with light coverage and then use a concealer to hide places where you are needing a little extra coverage...
Also only apply makeup in the center of you face and blend outward-you should never apply foundation to your jawline unless you are going for the mask look
The fact that you are seeing orange tells me one of two things...you are either not exfoliating and the proteins in the dead skin will turn foundation orange...or...you are using the wrong color...hold up a couple bottles of foundation wherever it is that you buy foundation...you should see a pink undertone, a yellow undertone or a brownish or what we call neutral undertone...you are most likely needing the neutral undertone...if you cannot tell the difference, head over to your cosmetic counter and cough up a few extra bucks to get matched to a quality foundation and then you won't keep wasting your money buying the wrong thing

Start with a clean, well moisturized face. Try mixing the darker shades with the lighter ones on your hand. Then either use a damp sponge or your fingers to apply foundation to your face. Use blush to bring out color in your face! Also, for long-term, use sunless tanners- such as Neutrogena's Summer Glow or Dove's Energy Glow, as they might help bring some natural color and a healthy glow to your skin and oust that greyish cast to your skin tone! If neither of these help, or you need immediate help, try asking a beauty consultant at a department store or Ulta (my personal favourite) as the people there are extremely helpful and will answer all your questions and even show you neat tricks free of charge and without any pressure to buy any products. Hope this helps :)

it really sounds like you have a cool complexion. and if so, you do want to stay in proper color group. you can be pale and still "fake" a healthy looking summery glow.
apply the make-up that matches your complexion best, set the make-up with powder, and then apply a rosy colored blush to your cheeks using a good blush brush, then get just a touch more blush on the brush and apply a little to the tip of your nose, but be careful not to get too much, you're just trying to glow, not shine. and apply a little of the blush to your temples where the sun would naturally hit you. what you should see is a natural, healthy glow. and if you really want to step things up, you can use a bronzing powder and put it in the same places that you did the blush, tip of nose, and temples. you can also buy a bronzer that's light enough to be dusted all over your face, like Physicians Formula bronzing powder, they have a bunch of different colors to choose from. and if you get too much on your face and feel that it looks a little darker than your neck, just put some on your neck so that your face and neck blend. that's what I do myself, and I have tons of compliments and people tell me all the time how beautiful they think my skin is, and how it just has such a healthy glow. I don't ever tell them it's bronzing powder! but I apply it on my face and my neck.
you should give it a try. and remember practice makes perfect. you may not get it just the way you want it to look the first time you try it, but just keep working with it until you do get the glow that you want.
Best Wishes! I know you can do it!

Hmmm

If you're not happy with your pale skin, then try going for moisturizers that are kind of bronzers in them. Here:

it may be too dark.. so id suggest one of those ones that make you darker with more use (neutrogena ones).

However, I wouldnt go too dark. Girls who look orange when they have fake tans are not meant to be that dark.. obviously. So, just try and use these self tanners.

Otherwise, just dont go too dark. Youre light for a reason!
