This is the opinion that my neighbor has of computer games in general. he has purposely disconnected the internet service to his home and has told his kids that they can only play Xbox for 1 hour each day on the weekends. It seems like there was a rash of internet porn related busts in the community, and all the accussed were loners, jobless, and still living at home. He's afraid that his kids might become this way, hence his actions.
Is he being way too harsh. What do you think?

If you're going to try and use the answers from this to convince your neighbor that he's an idiot, it's not gonna work. A lot of parents are terrified that their child's future may not be perfect or desirable, and try to do everything they can to ensure a good future for their children. It may be harsh, but he just wants the best for his kids.

To actually answer your question....I know gamers who are socially inept and hide from the real world, but it's unfair to apply that stereotype to all gamers. I can say that I'm NOT socially inept, I thrive in the real world, and I play video games for 20-30 hours a week.

Just as long as you handle your business, then i see no issue at all with relaxing after work by playing a game. That is a general stereotype of gamers, the fact is that most gamers are very smart people and studies have show that video games may even make you smart.

Computer games do not make children become social castouts.....most of the things that video games get blamed for can be tracked back to bad parenting...your neighbor has unfortunately taken this to the opposite extreme....bringing your kids up in a bubble is a terrible idea as well...once they are able to get out on their own in the real world they are going to be in for a shock because they will be unprepared to deal with it...

Yeah he is beacause video games are fun and you can use games to make friends. But limiting play is good beacuse exercise is a must. You just have to be careful on those internet games also.
