you get addicted I think.
It is a downward slide.
I heard that red wine in the evening a glass is good, but I cannot help but drink the whole thing!
And I feel slightly foggy and depressed kind of the next day, and I think it is the toxins in it, and then you want to drink again the next night to recover that good feeling you had , and then more and more and before long you are drinking on the way to work!

Both are bad for you, but excessive drinking can alter your behaviour at least smoking does'nt, even though that is bad too.

It sounds like you have an alcohol dependence syndrome.
First a detox will help get rid shakes and lousy feelings (withdrawal symptoms) in the morning, then a drug like Acamprosate can kill the craving and if you are feeling brave Disufiram can make you throw up if you ingest alcohol.
Your GP can help you with this.
Attending Narcotics Anonymous (all drugs and alcohol) or Alcoholics Anonymous can also put you in touch with some very good people who have been there.
Cigarettes are just as bad for your health, but you don't have to stop everything in one go.
GET SUPPORT. You don't have to do this on your own. You will be surprised how helpful people can be. I certainly was.
One difference between cigs and alcohol is that you don't feel so lousy when you come of cigs and nicotine addicts don't risk fatal seizures if they try to stop smoking.

My drinking has certainly increased since I stopped smoking twelve years ago, but I'm glad to say I can't stomach it before nine o'clock in the evening so I don't feel too naughty yet.

Drink at least half a pint of water or squash before you get into bed, and keep some by your bed. It`s the dehydration that makes you feel so awful after drinking.

Both make you feel dizzy I think. That's what happens to me. Or is it because I drink and smoke at the same time?

Nah not really. Ok, they are both addictive but alcohol isn't half as bad as smoking (In my opinion). Smoking will kill eventually, drinking can be curtailed. I could be wrong though.

Smoking cigarettes is definitely addictive. However, you can only really be an alcoholic if you have the gene.
