It depends on the type of bird, but the Arctic Tern flies 20,000 miles every year in the course of it's migration from the arctic to the Antarctic and then back again. This means that it spends most of it's life in the air, and gets more sun than any other creature on the planet. Amazing bird.

There are many thousands of different species of birds. Some cannot fly (penguin), some hardly fly at all (chicken), some fly at frequent intervals (swallows) and some fly very long flights occasionally (geese, warblers). But there are some kinds of birds that live out on the deep ocean and fly nearly their whole lives - petrels, jaegers, albatrosses....
Birds are cool!

not sure but i do know one of the kind of birds flies 500 miles without stopping for a which i can't do while running a mile!
