Do you think the government is paying auto makers to exclude this feature to align with the anti-smoking wave that is sweeping the nation in the name of liberal societal responsibility?

I doubt that the government is paying automakers to exclude ashtrays from cars and trucks. It seems kind of silly, and truly isn't much of an expense to manufacture... also another point is that people are not going to stop smoking in their car because there isn't an ashtray... evidently the side of the road will continue to do just fine.

I think automakers are just using this stupid anti-smoking campaign to extract a few extra bucks from smoking drivers. Did you know that most cars have ashtray and lighter as an optional accessory?

No, I personally think that smoking is an old thing and new cars shouldn't really have an ashtray. I'm an ex smoker and now I find it disgusting, I hate to say.

Yep! Most manufactures have not been putting ash trays in their vehicles for years. Smokers (like myself) ARE the real enemies of the state.... I mean the enemies whose lives can be made miserable while other enemies are unreachable.

Ash trays are now an option on most new cars. Smoking is now in the same category a pedophilia.

I have noticed this in recent years. I guess less and less ppl smoke now-a-days. I don't smoke, but for some reason I have an ashtray and a lighter in my car. I like the ashtray I put the misc. garbage in it.

Because smokers are so ignorant about their health, auto manufacturers figure they are too ignorant to USE ash trays , the'll just use their windows because if they don't care about themselves why would they care about the enviornment!
