I have many hobbies and I excel at many things. I also have a lot of business ideas, but I have no drive in life.

Sometimes I'll sit down and write up a very detailed business idea and I believe very much that it will be successful. Then the next day I totally lose interest in it and go on to something else.

Eventually what happens is I have a dozen ideas and none of them really get implemented. Then I see that somebody else is now using my idea or has started a very similar business/service and I sigh..

I am doing good in college and I spend most of my time reading and thinking, but I don't *do* anything. I seem to lose interest in things at an alarming rate.

I get enough done to survive and do well in school, but nothing extra. I don't know if it's depression but I spend most of my time brooding and thinking and my ideas can be brilliant but I can't seem to get anything done.

I am married and I did try medication. Methamphetamine and Ritalin and all the other ADD meds work great but I can't afford drugs, I have no insurance and I don't want anything on my health record.

The shrooms have nothing to do with it. They helped me see my problems but now I want to know how to fix them.

Wow, this sounds exactly like me. o_o I'm a planner, but never a doer. I create tons of plotlines for stories, ideas for videogames, and all that stuff, but I never do anything with them. If I try, I get bored, and move on to thinking about something new.
I also do know what that type of personality comes from, in my case. I have a type of ADD that makes it so I can't focus on boring things. Work to me is boring, so once an idea begins to get old or gets to the point where I actually need to do something, I feel the need to find something new. In other words, I'll plan things out on paper, draw concept sketches of dozens of characters, but never do anything with them. ^^' It's pretty annoying.
You might want to see a psychologist about this. I did just that, and that's how I found out I had ADD. Unfortunately I haven't found a medication that doesn't give me side effects yet, but I've heard that some meds can work wonders. Mine said that I'll be able to feel the meds working because I'll have the sudden urge to occupy myself and actually do something. It'll also numb down the boredom.
I hope this helps! ^^ Good luck

I have the exact same problem as well - I love to plan things, and I have every intention of doing them... and then I don't.

The nearest I've been able to figure it out so far is that it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. See, I've come to *expect* that when I plan something, I won't end up doing it. So then I don't. Plus, there seems to be some kind of block that keeps me from doing something, specifically *because* it is a goal.

My psychologist calls it a "goal-phobia." We're still working on how to fix it.

Also, lack of motivation can be a sign of depression (that's something that me and my psychologist are working on as well).

ETA: another thing I've realized, at least in my case, is that there is a kind of disconnect (my life doesn't really exist, and therefore isn't really worth working for). Again, it's something that's being worked on, and I have no answers for you - I'm just hoping that by sharing my experiences I might help you identify the right questions. :)

Get married. Women push men to accomplish things. It's true. How many guys do you know who floundered until they met a woman?
