Yes, I do think I speak with an accent. Everyone has some kind of accent. If I'm from America, then people might say "Oh, she has an American accent." Because you're so used to hearing yourself speak, you usually don't think you do, but others, like people of Spanish backround, might think you do. You think they have an accent, because you might not hear Spanish every day. The truth is that everybody in this world has an accent, whether they like it or not.

Not when I am speaking American English I don't. Trying to speak Spanish or French I know I have an American accent because I can't mock their pronounciations very well.

Everyone says I speak in a posh voice.
I'd prefer to say that I use proper Queen's English myself though. So technically, yes I do have an accent. As do we all.

I've been told I have the "midwestern" accent, but I never knew that there was one. I thought the way I talked was the absence of an accent.

Good Question. Answer in majority is: yes.
Having or not having an accent is mostly cultural, social, and geographical, sometimes issue of defect or disease, but even genetically pedisposition can be the cause of some sort of an accent.
To understand the accent we have two points of views the talker and receiver or the person who is listening.
I am person with Mediterranean roots and although born and raised in multilinquistical family and society I will always have present accent for ears (receivers) from English spoken countries for example.
Let’s say that this accent is easier to discover or observe geographically and linguistically form of accent. Same thing if someone from English spoken countries and culture will try to speak my language, I will easily determine from which part of the world you coming from, now even in this accent can have strong variations.
For example, when I am concentrated on English language and lets say fresh and just in right mood I am speaking English with typical posh British or Irish accent, why because of my school and my teachers that let me in ear this accent, in the time I will concentrate on the form of the words and come back in my Mediterranean accent because my brain will just forgot the past school and get to reality of presence.
The second kind of accent is social kind.
To make easier: difference is between high society and mid class, or mid class and lower class. There is huge gap in phonetics and use of different words with specified meanings or on the end accent, this variation is easy to find it out if you are from same linguistically flock but it is harder to get if you are from some other linguistically family.
Different accent can be crucial even within same families if any kind of already mentioned things is involved, even different accent between brothers and sisters can be notable if they been living in different fanatical surroundings or for example they have different knowledge, different friends from different cultures.
The structure and complexion of accent is grooving with same proportion as our society.
To go even more deeper in this matter, people in politic will try to stick with they original home accent if they like to win home base voters, but will try to make accent discrete if they wan to win on global or multicultural voter groups, does it work yes, does it mean they changed, but of course not it is just a language of public relations..
The language and accents are vividly living creations of human race and no matter do we have or do not have accent, there will be one or more receivers that will thing different.
Why?
Because we are all different, our taste and social background is different, our characters are different, and the story never ends.
On the end do we have to be ashamed of our accent, of course not, it is what we are, it make us unique, please do not try to find some special accent to be original because than it will be mockery of your inner self or simply you will be entertainer, look "Borat" earned lot of money on funny accent that is not even closer to Kazahstanian, but in our western ears sounds good and we are laughing on it.
For the end some people have accent that you even do not hear at first, lets call them mainstream group from one society, others no matters how hardly they try accent will be there, as I said it is crucial part of that what we are not that we are trying to be and no matter what we are thinking of ourselves our accent will always tell the pure truth of real us.
I wish you love, health and happiness.
