Planning a 3 day trip to MKE in June. Need suggestions on reasonable hotels near the lake, something like Holiday Inn price range. Also need a good german restaurant that serves sauerbraten. Will be attending Summerfest. What is the 3rd World district like? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

It is the Third Ward. It's a growing area with a good amount of shopping.

As for German restaurants there are basically two to choose from. Mader's which is on Old World Third Street (not the same as the Third Ward). This one is very popular but I've heard it's more touristy. Then there's Karl Ratzch's which is the one my brother hits when he comes home. I don't much care for German food, so I can't give my own recommendation.

As for hotels near the lake, "near" is a relative term. There are no hotels right on the lake. There really aren't any within walking distance either....unless you're into hiking.

There are some downtown, but I'm not sure they're reasonably priced. If I were you, I'd just do a search on Milwaukee hotels in the downtown area (53202) and see what you come up with.

If you don't know the area, you can pick out your top 5 or whatever and then post again asking about the hotel and the area.

I think you mean the 3rd WARD district.
