Although it's spelled, "V-E-Z-I-N-A", the winner for this year will come down to Luongo or Brodeur. As much as I hate saying this, Brodeur will not win. Everyone knows his expectations. And, he kind of burnt down the stretch of the season. He hasn't faired well in recent weeks.

As for Luongo, well...after getting traded, expectations were slim. He was a good goalie on a so-so team. However, he faired better than expected. He should take the trophy but barely.

Is everyone ignoring the shut out differential.

I think a more careful evaluation is probably needed than I am willing to do.

Meaning does one of the goalies really step it up in low scoring games over the other?

Like what is the GAA in games when their team scores 2 goals or 3 goals.

Realistically if I ask the question I would rather have Brodeur over Luongo.

The Vezina award is usually given to the goaltender with the most amount of wins, but not always. This year it's very easy... Martin Brodeur or Roberto Luongo, NO ONE else has a chance AT ALL. Even though Luongo has carried his team this year, I would put a 4 to 1 odds on Brodeur because the rest of his stats put Luongo out to dry.

It has to be Luongo. He is the sole reason why the Canucks are going to the playoffs. In fact, they are battling it out right now w/ the Wild for the divisional title.

Brodeur gets much more help both defensively & offensively. When it all boils down to it, Luongo is the best goalie in the league right now and a candidate for the league MVP (Hart Trophy)

I have to believe the Vezina will go to Brodeur based on the 12 shutouts. Loungo has played exception hockey and deserves consideration along with Hasek but Brodeur is working magic this year. This is not a good defensive team playing in front of him and along with the injury problems he has had to absolutely carry this team. This isnt the 23-25 shots a night defense playing in front of him, these guys are giving up more along the lines of 33-35 shots a night. Couple that with the tremendous workload and wins (along with save % and GAA) and it will be difficult to vote against him.

LUONGO!!! This guys amazing. Brodeur doesn't face as many quality shots. All the people in the east always think the Eastern Conference players should win because they dont stay up to watch the western conferene games. Vancouver plays in the hardest division (I know a lot of eastern people will disagree but it's true). I hate the Canucks, but Luongo is really good this year! Brodeur is amazing too, but not as good as Luongo. The actually Canucks players are terrible, but their goalies their whole team.

As much as i love Luongo, you always pick Brodeur when it comes down to it. Luongo is just starting out his career when you think about it... he FINALLY got traded to an amazing team, and he's helped them out a substantial amount, breaking the franchise record for wins, and closing in on Bernie Parent's record for wins in a season.
But take a look at Brodeur. He's finishing up his career, and thinking about retiring. (quote from www.wikipedia.com) He is a two-time Vezina Trophy winner, a five-time Jennings Trophy winner, a nine-time NHL All Star, and one of only a handful of NHL goaltenders to have scored a goal. In the current 2006-07 NHL season, Brodeur surpassed Sawchuk and Ed Belfour on the all-time wins list and Glenn Hall on the all-time shutouts list to rank 2nd and 3rd in those categories, respectively.
He is also on pace to break the record number of wins in a season.
So why Brodeur?
This season Brodeur has a .922 save percentage, 2.22 GAA and 12 shutouts. 12!!!!! you cant get any better than 12 shutouts in one season unless of course you are terry sawchuck.
As for Luongo, his stats are also outstanding, but of a minute difference. .922 save percentage, 2.27 GAA, and only 4 shutouts. Gotta go with the stats on this one... and it says Brodeur.

If Brodeur keeps his GAA down, I think he'll win. When Brodeur has been good, he has been AMAZING; but when he is bad, he gives up crap goals while still making great saves. His shutouts this season really make him a contendor for the trophy. Plus the number of wins he has alotted for the Devs

What about Hasek ? He could be a dark horse for the trophy.

I think Brodeur because he has helped his team out more than Luongo. Luongo's Canucks score alot of goals compared to the Devils and the Devils still manage to win games so i think it is because of Martin Brodeur your 06-07 Vezina Trophy Winner!

it will go to either Brodeur or Luongo the one that finishes the season with the most wins. both with 43 wins. if still tied after that they will go with GAA and SP%.

Hockeygu…>>>if Brodeur's team plays so defencively why has Brodeur faced the most shots this season. their not the same team as the late 90's. that is not the case for Brodeur this year he is truly that good.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
