I've taken care of horses on one of the ranches I worked at. Generally when the horses needed hoof care we called a farrier.

You should do the same. :)

Here is some cited information about what a farrier does from wikipedia:

A farrier is a specialist in equine hoof care, including the trimming and balancing of a horse's hoof so as to fit shoes to the horse's foot. A farrier couples a subset of the blacksmith's skills (fabricating, adapting, and adjusting metal shoes) with a subset of veterinary medicine (knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the lower limb) to address the care of the horse's feet.

A farrier's routine work is primarily hoof trimming and shoeing. In ordinary cases it is important to trim each hoof so that it retains its proper orientation to the ground. If the animal has a heavy work load, works on abrasive footing, needs additional traction, or has pathological changes in the foot, then shoes may be required.

Additional tasks for the farrier include dealing with injured and/or diseased hooves and application of special shoes for racing, training or "cosmetic" purposes. In cases of horses with certain diseases or injuries, special repairative procedures may be needed for the hooves, and then special shoes may need to be constructed and fitted.

Ask around at your local feed store or other people with horses for a good farrier--you can not shoe them yourself--I have 5 horses and they are shod about every 6 weeks--for the ones i ride--the others just get trimmed--shoes are $50.00 and a trim is $25.00---Your price may vary according to where you live!

You need to know what y ou are doing in order to trim or shoe horses. It isn't as simple as it looks. And not all horses need shoes - only if they are ridden on rough surfaces or in rocky areas, or have problems needing correction.
So .. you pay a trained professional farrier to trim and shoe if necessary. Unless you go to farrier school and become one yourself!
Trimming four hooves in south Ga. is about $25-$25

Asking the question suggests you know nothing about it, don't try it yourself. Find a good farrier in the area and you'll have to pay him to do it. Talk to someone with horse knowledge, they'll give you some idea who in the area is good to call..

I grew up with horses and no matter what NEVER SHOE A HORSE unless you know what you are doing. You need to hire a shoesman to come out and do it for you. Better safe then sorry. You can really do damage to a horse if you try and do it yourself. Good luck!

Do not shoe a horse yourself unless you know how to do it! You must find a reputable Farrier or Blacksmith in your area to do it for you as they have the education and experience to shoe correctly. I am in California and clipping and shoeing four hooves is $90. Prices vary by location and by farrier.

I have someone come to my house and shoe my horse. He costs $70 to shoe and $20 to trim. I prefer having people come to my house, but some people take their horses places. It's really all preference. I would never shoe my horse myself. I don't even have the first clue on how to.

I pay someone to do it, but I don't have them shoe her partly I like the "Wild Horse" trim, partly becuase she has a mild club foot.

There is a website (sorry, I don't know what it is) that teaches you to do the wild horse trim yourself.

I am sorry that people are critisizing you for asking this question. If you are asking this question it's becuase you want to know, not becuase you are stupid or ignorant.

to get them shod you need to find a farrier these are people who specialise in shoeing horse/ponies mules anything horse related make shure the farrier you are dealing with is qualified for the job... and your all set. I wouldnt advise doing it yourself unless you are specially qualifed in this area.

Get a Ferrier. Don't do it yourself unless you have actually been trained to do it. If you mess up you can damage your horse's feet and make him lame. Meaning you will never be able to ride him.

PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT RIGHT!!!!!!!!! it isn't to much. Mine is about $100 for all 4 hooves and he'll clean them too.
