Depending on your age---I have different advice. If you are still in your 20s, I would say wait and see if you find someone you want to spend the rest of your life with.
If you are in your mid to late 30s, time can be running out from a biological standpoint. Yes, women can have children into thier 40s, but it isn't the high amount you think that can actually do it. If you still don't have a man, then think very carefully about adoption or artificial insemination. Don't rush into any decisions simply because of the pull to "have a child" but because you truly want to be a mom and life hasn't given you a life partner with which to do that. If you decide to adopt or be artificially inseminated, you will need lots of emotional support from family and friends since you will be going this alone. Believe me when I say this--you will NEED the emotional support. I am currenlty going through the same thing right now--I was artificially inseminated and I am a single woman in my late 30s--and the emotional rollercoaster of having a child really can get to you. Having someone be there for your emotionally is extremely important.
Good luck to you in whatever you decide. But please think long and hard from all perspectives before you make a choice.

I was a single mother for years. You might want to wait because you never know when Mr. Perfect might come along and want to have a family of his own. If you have no intention on ever being in a relationship with a man, I'd recommend that you wait until you're established in a career and you're over the age of 30, so you're financially independent and at that age, you really know more of what you want out of life. Don't do anything that will put strain on your life now if you're young. There's so much responsibility in raising a child alone, it's so hard, I sincerely cannot emphasize enough how hard it is.

DO NOT just grab a man for this. Take in mind there are bad genes out there, controlling men, and bad fathers. You should just take you time with this. Meet a man that you really connect with on multiple plains. For all you know, he may be perfect to you, but may not want a child. You will feel much better when you become a mother, when you know that nothing was rushed, forced, and "set-up".
VERY..important to take your time.

I think that is wonderful that you have the desire to want and love a child. But please be prepared to commit to raising a child. Believe me, it isn't easy.
Don't get me wrong, children are a blessing, but I see countless parents who have children who do not commit everything within them to raise them and nurture them.
I agree with adoption (although its expensive) and artificial insemination.
Good Luck!

How old are you? My daughter is in her early 30's and has not found a decent guy and she, too, is thinking about what you are. It sounds as if you are responsible and ready. It's a shame to have to do this alone but I understand your feelings completely! Good luck to you.

Yeah...you can find a man on myspace.com, cuz usually people are meeting a lot of new friends there.
But be careful...find the right man for yourself, or if you will not, than wait a little bit. Maybe it is not a right time for you to have a baby ;))
