Jonathan Stroud-- Amulet of Samerkand series is excellent!

Diana Wynne Jones (Fire and Hemlock, Archer's Goon as well as the Christopher Chant-- the latter is a bit younger and you'll see where some of the Harry Potter stuff came from)

Jenny Nimmo Snow Spider

Susan Cooper The Dark is Rising (another good series; you can skip Over Sea, Under Stone and get to the others0

Tanith Lee Unicorn series and Wolf series

Jane Yolen

Patrice Kindl (Owl in Love is a favorite)

Patricia McKillip

Hope you find someone you enjoy!

I highly recommend Guy Gavriel Kay.

Terry Goodkind is good, and if you haven't read any Alan Dean Foster (especially Spellsinger series) you might want to give that a shot.

Terry Brooks has a great series out. The Sword of Shannara, is (I believe) the first in a really good series of books.
