What are the rules for allowing a walkover win versus forcing somebody to play a new opponent as fill-in for the person he was supposed to play? Does it have to do with the player physically being out on the court, trying to make a go of it, and not being able to play? In that case it would be a walkover? I am just asking because in the Sony Ericsson tournament Philipp Kohlschreiber was supposed to play Sergio Roitman in the first round, but Kohli apparently had an upset stomach and Alejando Falla was allowed to take his place as a lucky loser. Falla went on to beat Roitman and also beat Haas in the second round. But why was Roitman not awarded a walkover win over Kolhschreiber? How was that determined?

well i guess that Philip retired before the tournament got underway for example let say Philip was getting ready to play and his match would be in just 1 more hour or half an hour and all of a sudden he felt sick and couldn't play, roitman would have been awarded with a walkover but i guess Philip was feeling sick a day before or something and the tournament was aware that something was going to happen to Philip so they replace him just in case Philip didn't feel any better the next day or whatever

It is because Philipp retired before the tournament had officially commenced.
