Socialism is spreading across Latin America, and in Canada left-wing parties got over 60% of the vote in the last election. Eventually, of course, there will demands for more socialism in the US as well.

All this has happened during the administration of a supposedly hard-line conservative US President.

Socialism is prevalent all over Europe as well.

Capitalism in its purest form is meant for an agrian based society. All theories need to be mixed together in order to meet people's needs.

The spread of socialism across Latin America is historically the response of the vast majority of people in each nation who constitute the poorest of the poor. This response is a rising up against the aristocratic minority who persist in clinging to the worst excesses of colonialism. However, more immediately, the spread of socialism throughout Latin America represents the defiance of the peoples of these nations against the ever-present intervention of the US in supporting corporate sponsored aristocracies, dictatorships, and death squads. (Just say NO to Chiquita Bananas! Organic bananas do NOT pay for death squads!).

On the other hand, do not be so optimistic for the situation in the US. The majority of the working poor who would benefit from a more socially-oriented system are precisely those who are most easily manipulated by the cynical drones who grow fat and wealthy off of the poor's labours.

Socialism is an attractive premise, But it doesn't work on a large scale. At least not at the most extreme.

As long as there is a free market and independant buiseness continues to thrive the US won't deviate from capitalism.

Personally i think some of the small elements or practices of idea's that might be considered socialistic won't weaken the system we know have in place at all.

Why don't you do something about it, if it is a problem? Why do you blame your government for blips that go wrong in the night? You're like a good idea gone bad -to an extreme. The world is not in Bush's care, because when it is, you whine and complain about that too. What exactly do you do to make a difference in this world? Are you that much of a noodling victim? When will you understand that complaining is not respected. Doing something, offering solutions is. You socially outcast yourself as a whiny kid hanging on Bush's leg while he drags you on his way.

I think the spread of socialism in Latin America and Canada will continue to speak volumes about why it should NOT come to the US.

Well, considering all things, maybe we should just let the little commies run amok in other countries for awhile. We can just worry about cleaning up our own house. Seems that if we actually TRY to do anything anywhere else, WE get told what evil, dirty people we are for IMPOSING freedom on people.
Socialism worked so well for the soviets, let others try a taste.

YES! Vote them out of office. The key word here is VOTE! Those who don't, have no reason to complain.

If your examples of the Canadian and European economies are good examples of socialism, I will pass.

They also have high rates of unemployment and a lower standard of living. I won't work as hard if I can't decide how it is spent. Your examples speak for themselves.
