A 0.094 kg meter stick is supported at its 40 cm mark by a string attached to the ceiling. A 0.62 kg object hangs vertically from the 6.77 cm mark. A second mass is attached at another mark to keep it horizontal and in rotational and translational equillibrium. The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s^2. If the tension in the string attached to the ceiling is 20.1 N, find the value of the second mass.

The tension is supporting the total mass of the 3 objects.
T = mtotal*g = m1*g + m2*g + m3*g
Calculate the mass of the 3rd piece, m3.

There's no need to do any calculations to balance the torques. I started to before re-reading the question.
