Castor oil
This is a laxative that acts by stimulating the muscles of the womb as well as the gut. Mix it with lemon juice or orange juice for a less nauseating oily gloop. But beware - it can cause violent diarrhoea before it gets going on labour, and there have been reports of dehydration of the mum-to-be. This is not for the faint-hearted or anyone with poor toilet facilities!
Nipple rubbing/rolling
This releases oxytocin. You have to massage the whole areola area with firm but gentle pressure, and this may have to be done for quite some time - about 15 mins of continuous massage to each nipple (separately or together) every hour for several hours. And, yes, this is another method that encourages partner involvement...
Eating a pineapple
Pineapple contains an enzyme that's thought to help soften the cervix. It must be fresh pineapple, as canning destroys this enzyme. Juice doesn't work either. Sadly, there's only a small amount of the enzyme in a whole pineapple, so you'd have to eat several to get an effect. You're probably then back in curry territory, with bowel stimulation being the effective agent.

I was induced early so i didnt have to do a thing but i know keeping active will ensure that there is pressure on the cervix. Gravity will eventually take its toll. Usually round your due date they will do a membrane sweep, most probably during an internal examination. This is quick but can stimulate the beginnings of the contractions.
Hot baths can help too... just dont use any oils or perfumed products. Sometimes just warm water in the bath is fine.
They say also anything with a laxative effect ie prunes stimulates the need for a bowel movement and waters sometimes break with this too.
good luck!!

I'm due this Friday and I really feel your pain LOL. Mine is very low too and my back and hips are KILLING me. I have been overdue with every one of them though and feeling a little disappointed that I'm prob gonna carry this one over too. You'd think after this many I would have at least ONE early...But I don't try the old wives' tales either...I just let them come when they are ready or at induction time. At my appt. Thursday I was a tight 2 cm and 70 % effaced...and I went from 0 cm 0eff. from the week before so I guess at least I made some progress...I know the waiting sucks. And I walk ALOT...with all the other kids I have no choice chasing after them...plus I CAN'T STOP cleaning my house. I find myself cleaning the same things I did an hour before LOL.

You are doing everything right! Keep up the good work, and the baby will arrive when they are ready. You'll have your body back to yourself soon enough, mama. You can call your doctor if you want to be induced. See if they'll let you go to the hospital and start you on some meds to get the ball rolling, if that's something you are okay with. At this late stage in the game you can do whatever you want. This is usually when I decide to change the babies name and decide the nursery isn't clean enough, so do whatever weirdness makes you feel better too!
Best of luck hon, take care.

Hi, I did a lot of walking when my due date arrived and even though it didn't break my waters it did get my baby's head better engaged. I ended up being induced but the midwife told me that if I had have carried on walking around for maybe one more day then my waters would have broken. It's such a pain I know but your little one will be with you before you know it! Good luck and take care xx

Nothing worked for me either and I had 3 overdue babies. Enjoy your 'extra time' with your partner before baby takes over! I did hear that walking up the stairs sideways could get things going - I tried it in labour and it sped things up for me!
Latest advice is not to take castor oil as it can cross the placenta and affect your baby, so best avoided.
Good luck!

I know how you feel and its miserable. I dont think any of it works, perhaps speeds it up a little if your ready anyway, but I really think that the people that tried one of these tricks and it works-it was getting ready to happen anyway and Its a coincidence. but who really knows - give 'em a try, I did. nothing worked : (
sorry I couldnt be more encouraging-this is what everyone told me when I went almost 2 wks overdue!! Ugghhh!

Oh bless i really feel for you. I cant give you any quick fixes but tomorrow keep yourself active.. go for a long walk, wash the car, clean the house. Dont sit around waiting for it to happen. Both mine were 2 weeks late after i was convinced they would be early so dont be disappointed if your little one doesnt show... but be active.. it will encourage labour!

Walk and walk and walk. that is all i can tell you hun. Not really sure about anything else. That is what they told me. Also a nice relaxing bath to help with the uncomfortable but make sure you have someone home to help you out.

Another old wives tale that does seem to work in the vast majority of times is to take Castor Oil. I'm not sure how much....start with a few tablespoons in orange juice (the oil tastes terrible) and if that doesn't work try taking more later.
Good luck!
