Generally no, sexually mature males can be very aggressive towards anyone and everything. I saw one very tame iguana, the thing was a 6-ft dog, but he gave me the worse scratches because he was trying to get a grip on me. Ultimately iguanas are large, aggressive lizards that need a lot of time and attention to keep them tame. A better choice for a 10 year old would be a uromastyx (also vegetarian), or a bearded dragon or a leopard gecko. Water dragons are also a nice choice since they look like igs, but stay smaller, but eat insects.

No. Iguanas aren't good for kids. In fact they aren't very good for most adults. Most iguanas bought as pets end up getting sick and dying. This is because people for one reason or another can not care for them properly. Iguanas grow very fast and get very big. Adults can get to 6 feet in length and need a very big hand made enclosure. They wont do very well in a glass fish tank. They also need special lighting and temperatures. Their diet has to be specially prepared as well. Also iguana can be very aggressive. They have very sharp teeth and they can give a very pain full bloody bite. They also can whip you with their long tail. And trust me it hurts, a lot. If you think you are ready to try owning a reptile I would suggest going to the library and getting some books about their care. You can also go to places on line like http://www.kingsnake.com and look at some of the reptile care sheets they have there. Whatever you decide make sure you know how to care for your new pet and have everything you need set up before you bring him home. Good luck.

Hey kid. Iguanas are great animals but they are hard work and they will cost you loads of money. Rather leave the Iguana for when you are a bit older. Start with something smaller, that doesn't need that much space. A leopard gecko is the perfect pet to start with. Get permission from mom and dad first though

Iguanas are often not friendly with even adults. They really don't make the best pets. I recommend a Leopard Gecko (my first reptile, so cool!). Leopard Geckos don't need special lighting, just an under tank heater and they're good. If you want to get a bigger lizard, Bearded Dragons are good. They do need UV (A and B) lighting though, which is pretty expensive. Water Dragons also need UV lighting, and really high humidity. They can get up to 3 feet and since they're really active, they need a really big cage (eventually, you shouldn't keep a juvie in a huge cage).

Iguanas are very aggressive when young and have to be handled everyday to tame them and even then they will get aggressive during breeding season. They are not a beginner pet if you really want a lizard try a leopard gecko or a bearded dragon. Iguanas get 7ft long and scratch and bite when not tame and taming takes awhile.

If they're handled enough, they're pretty tame. But one thing you have to watch out for is Salmonella. I caught it from my lizard when I was younger and it's transferred through they're waste. All reptiles carry it, so if you get one, make sure you ALWAYS wash your hands after playing with it, and never let it get on or near where you'll be eating.
Good luck.

If you treat the animal right it will repsond no matter what your age. Just make sure you can handle to responsibility of an animal like that. They are not easy to care for and require very specific temperatures, lighting, humidity, and food.
