They're each called the 'heel'. Usually used to keep the end pieces covered. Eat them toasted when the loaf's gone.

The heels. I tolerate them, but given a choice I'll take another slice of bread in the loaf.

In Scotland they're called "ootsiders" and most people there like them, especially toasted, since they tend to be thicker than most other slices.

In the US, I've heard them referred to as the end piece, but I'm not saying that this is a universal practice.

The 'heel' piece, is my fav!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah! Wish the whole loaf was this way! Makes a sandwich even better!

The ends are called 'heels' and I do eat them. I actually enjoy them....I'm weird though.

my girlfriend loves them. We are in israel. And here everyone calls them neshikot (one neshika) which means kisses. They say that the actually correct term is leshikot but noone uses it.
