Make sure you're wearing the right color. When you put on foundation, don't cake it on. Just put a light layer of it on. I like sheer foundations better, because it only takes a little of it to make your skin look nice.

Another option (my favorite) is tinted moisturizer. It never looks caked on, it smooths your skin, and it has SPF in it.

It sounds like you do not have a good concealer. Look into department store products like Chanel or Dior. The concealer in these brands do not cake up-

Try a mineral powder foundation. I think it's the most amazing product out there.
I use Arbonne's but if it is to costly try a brand at the drug store.

Your skin tone is either warm, cool or nuetral
depending on your color (pink/yellow undertones)
and hair/eyes.

well personally i think that concealer and and foundation and all that stuff always looks un-natural and stuff so i would say don't put it on.. but if you really want to put it on put it on lightly and try to get on-line tips off the Internet from like makeup artist.. get get like their e-mail or something..idk

That is because you are applying make-up like you are getting married or are in a play. All you really need is a good liquid foundation and just apply with your fingers. You don't even need a sponge....the sponge is whats making it look cakey. Good Luck!
