Ferrets will always smell like ferrets.
You can cut down on the smell by keeping them in a well ventilated area and keeping them clean.
Start by scooping their litter box twice daily. Remove all poop and wet areas. Once a week change all bedding(I use old t-shirts and sweat shirts, they're washable and reusable), wash down all surfaces of the cage as well.
Do not bathe your ferret more than once a month, maybe less even(I do). If you bathe them more often the skin will dry out and the oil glands that make the smelly oils will go into overdrive and produce more oil faster making your ferret smellier faster. If you must, you can wipe down your ferret with wipes you can buy at the pet store. I found some that smell like pina colada, but they don't last very long.
Next, check the label on your ferret food. Are any of the ingredients derived from fish? Switch to one whose protein comes from chicken or lamb or anything but fish, fish meal or fish byproducts. Fish makes your ferrets poop stink.
You can run a room freshener like Plug In's in your ferret's room too(I use Febreze Noticeables).
You do all these things the smell will be bearable, but remember, it's a ferret. It's not supposed to smell like a rose!
Good luck to you.
PS: there is something you can add to the water called Marshall's Bi-Odor. It supposedly works, but I do not believe in feeding my animals chemicals just so I don't get offended by their natural odor. I wouldn't feed it to my baby, so why should I feed it to my ferret? After all, I probably don't smell all that heavenly to them either sometimes.

1: keep their cage really clean
2: you can get them spayed or neutered
3: you can buy special food that reduce the smell of their feces
4: the worst thing you can do is wash your ferret as this encourages your ferret to produce more smell from his/hers sweat glands.
