ive never got a satisfactory answer for this. empty space appears black and since black isnt a colour (its the complete absorbsion of light) why is nothingness that colour. its not an absence of light because light travels through "empty space" and we only see it once its reflected.

Consider the moon. It shines because it reflects light. Now consider space. For all practical purposes, it's a vacuum. There's nothing for the light to reflect off so space looks black. Shine a flashlight at the wall and the wall lights up. Not the air between you and the wall.

space is empty it billions of AU And Trillions Of Light Years Long. The Isn't Anything Close Enough To A Light Source In Space To Reflect The Light Rays To illuminate outer space

First it is neccessary to understand what is Space and what kind of Structure makes up Space.
The colors that our eyes see, is due to the frequency of the radiation that permeates space. When that radiation of particle hits our recepetors it forms a pressure which is then translated unto energy signal thru tranducers which our brain interprets as light and Images.
So the basic particles of space and mass are not really visible to our eyes. What is not visible is interpreted as black by our brain.
All particles need space in order to travel. Without space motion would not exist. The chinese believed that without the "CHI"(space structure) our Universe would not exist.
Therefore Light needs the medium of Space in order to propagate.
Therefore there must exist a SUBSTANCE of Space to form its Structure. The assumption that space is void and empty still remains just a gross assumption.

Well I could be a smart as*s and say it's because empty space is in a bad neighborhood...

Or it's black because it's the absorption of all color OR because of the absence of light. At least from our limited vantage point

Olbers's paradox. If galaxies were not moving away from Earth at great speeds and taking their light with them, Olbers had reasoned, the night sky would not be black but one great sphere of light. Space is black because the universe is expanding.
Hope this helps.
