A combination of nerve synapses, tendons, blood vessles, joints and muscles. Basically, the brain fires a message - down the central nervous system (CNS) to the fingers. This message is then transferred into action by the muscles and tendons who act on the information received. The blood vessels ensure that all the essential part are kept fed with oxygen etc to keep them healthy and functional. The joints/bones ensure that your fingers are supported rather than just floppy!

Essentially it is about a system of tendons (pulleys) attached to the muscles in your forearm.
If you imagine your arm by your side with palm facing forward, like in the Leonardo da vinci picture, the muscles in the front of the forearm pulls the fingers one way (flexion) and the muscles in the back pull them the other way (extension). This system of muscle groups working in opposition (antagonism) is used throughout the skeletal muscle groups. Biceps and triceps are another example.
Unfortunately, this is best demonstrated graphically and not with words. Try a google on 'forearm extensor and flexor compartments'.

the muscles and tendons flex and extend and the joints allow this movement to occur. all the little bones in our hands allow for movement and that "bendy" effect that u were talking about.
