Stretch a string from the one corner to the diagonal corner. Then stretch one from the other two corners. You will form an X with the strings, and the middle of the X is the center of the room.

Stringing diagonally from corner to corner is correct, however, do it on the floor. Where the lines cross, that is the center of the room. Mark that spot with an upside down paper cup. Then , tie a spoon to a long enough string, set up a stepladder in the approximate vicinity of the paper cup, climb the ladder, hold the other end of the string with the spoon on it to the ceiling and move the string till the spoon is over the paper cup. Mark that spot, 'cause that is the center of the ceiling. End of story.

Guess at what you think is one half the size of the room. Measure in from opposite walls whatever you guessed and make a mark for each. You will now have two marks fairly close together which is quite easy to measure and divide in two to get the actual center. Do that for the perpendicular measurement and your done.

If it is a reactangular room run a line from the opposite corners (diagonal corners) and where the lines cross it is the center. If the room is not a rectangular room, I will need more info.

You can run diagonal lines or string on the ceiling. No measuring.
