I know that the internet has given people the freedom of speech, and I know by posting out this question I will probably get a lot of nasty remarks, but I really need to ask this question.
Since I started going on this site, all I have seen is a lot of hatred against ethnic minorities but particulry blacks. Racism is wrong...very very wrong. We do not all go around playing the race card every second of the day, all are men are not in prison and we don't all think that we are owed anything because of the slave trade.
We are not lazy, we are not all thieves, every jamacian does not smoke cannabis and not every single person in Africa has AIDS.
Alot of good things have come from Black people why cant we just be appreciated as human beings, instead of an object of hatred. A man is a man, is a man. It doesnt matter what colour of skin he has, he should be treated as a human being, and treated with respect.

Im not aiming this question at white people its to everyone...I mean there are even self hating black people on this site and I think all this hatred should just stop. People should be proud of who they are but respect others too!!!

Amen to that sister! I believe God would want it that way!
After all, and this does'nt matter, but, Jesus was closer to being black than white. (im hispanic)

The reason, imo, that you see lots of racish remarks on here is because there are a lot of immature, unGodly, people on here who used this as a means to release they hated toward mankind.
No doubt, there does seem to be more racist remarks against the black race! I believe part of that is because who we see in the media that represents one' race.
For me, I see all these hispanics, who supposedly represent me, that I totally disagree with.(illegall immigration. Open borders etc.)
Then the people they represent go breaking lots of laws in the name of 'compassion' 'equality' and people see that and know that is not right, so they start blaming that race for the problems in this world, and thus the expression of their hated.

Could it be also that we see lots of that in the movies we watch also, not to mention TV and in the print media?!
But why is it in the moves etc.? What is the percentage of the different race's in our prison system today? I don't know,..maybe that is a factor.

**Alot of good things have come from Black people why cant we just be appreciated as human beings, instead of an object of hatred**

Amen to that to my sister! God would want that we all as human beings be appreciated(except for those doing crimes, we dont appreciate that) I wish we could get rid of all the "I'm this Race" thing and just call it as it is...The Human Race and Respect and Appreciate All!

Racism is truly a negative thing. No one person should dislike another just because of his/her skincolor. Some white people are resentful of African Americans though, but not really racist. Let me explain. There are some white people in the U.S. that genuinely want equality for all races, black included. Some have issues with the attitude some African Americans in the U.S. have however. Again, not saying all black people are like this by any means, but some preach about how they would like to be seen and treated as an equal and not judged by their skincolor, which is great, but then turn around and ask the gov't for priveleges just because they're black. That is not equal. I'll use education as an example. There are scholarships specifically for black people, but yet there aren't any for whites. If a white scholarship was created you know that the person that created it would be called racist by some people. Also, quotas in some colleges and universities. A person should not be allowed into a university because that school needs a certain percentage of people of that skincolor. A person should get in to a school because they have busted their a** to get good grades, not because they're a minority. I feel that blacks have the same minds I do and are indeed as capable as I am, so I don't understand why it should be easier on them in areas, education being the one I'm using as an example. Like other areas some changes would need to be made though. I think that when you apply for a job, university, etc. that you should just be given a number to use and not your name (so no name discrimination can be used) and then your resume should be listed. I don't feel that scholarships and quotas given to particular groups are fair, and that's one reason why some white people are resentful. They feel that there are some areas where blacks say they want equality, but what they seem to want is to do half the work as a person of another ethnicity and get the same result. Again, not all blacks or other ethnicities are like this.

I think a lot of racism is a learned characteristic. I know that my step dad is one of those racist people who tries not to be racist. I know that he got this from his mother. Man I could tell you stories about that lady. She was around 40 in the sixties, so she was one of the people that was just not ready to make a change and passed that down to her sons. I know that he tries, but honestly I don't know if he can. It's the aged old battle of nature vs. nurture.

Now, me I grew up from a single mother with an older brother. She was a woman who worked her @ss off to support us. Growing up, we lived in a mostly black city, that til this day no one can believe I was from (it's a pretty rough area). I never saw skin color. I still go to that city every once in a while and people think I'm nuts. I think that I saw how people acted and I made it my JOB to rise about that bull.

As there are loud mouthed white people, there are also loud mouth black people. Unfortunately, these are usually the only people that get heard. I think stereotypes are formed because of what is seen and heard and not what is actually known. Most people (of any color) would rather form an opinion on something unknown rather than taking the time to actually learn the facts.

I have a huge problem with black comedians and musicians embracing the stereotype and calling each other the "N" word. That is a horrible word. It is like women calling each other b*tches. There is nothing cool about saying it. I don't care if it's a black man saying the word "ni*ga" or a woman saying "b*tch". It still does not make it right. How can we call one another those words and NOT expect them to be said by other people not of that race or sex.

I don't think the world will change. We are always going to have racists. We are always going to have certain prejudices. All we can hope for is that the new generation of educated, open minded people pass these traits down to their children, so they grow up knowing that a person is a person, no matter what the sex or race.

This was a great question by the way.

I wonder about this myself...I guess it boils down to the old herd mentality: "If it's different, kill it." That would explain racism or xenophobia on the part of those in the "dominant" group. Self-hatred because of one's own race or colour...well the media images don't help. Like "all" blacks (or asians or whatever) are like this, dress or talk like that, do this, end up in jail or dead or pregnant...the images are out there and people end up feeling trapped.
Personally, I've always felt black people were more beautiful than me--I'm white, and feel pretty plain. Like vanilla icecream....boring.
It's a strange world. What must human beings be, to destroy what we can never create?

Oh my, that's an easy question to answer.

This mentality stems from the slave days. Back when Blacks were taken from the Mother Land, their captors dehumanized them as to justify Chattel slavery.

This mentality caught on as a defense to continue slavery in the Southern United States.

After the Civil War and Reformation, most blacks couldn't get decent jobs mainly, the Black males. Black females could get jobs by cleaning and keeping the affluent White's homes and children. So,people would see some Black men sitting around the house doing nothing and they'd apply the labels, shiftless and lazy.

Now, Black on Black attitudes also stem from the slave days. House slaves were considered better because many were children of the slave owner and many of the house slaves were secretly educated. Where as the field slaves were not given the same opportunities. Look at the famous Black Poet Phyllis Wheatly, she was a house slave that was secretly educated.

This Black attitude still exists this day. If you notice "some" Blacks make digs at Blacks who are articulate and educated. Down in the south you still have some blacks who subscribe to that old brown bag test mentality.

I find that most bigots, racists and blacks who wallow with in the dark mire of self hatred, are just plain angry. Angry at their circumstances and want to lash out at people. So they lash out at people who make them feel inferior.

You are absolutely 100% correct "A man is a man, is a man" We shouldn't be judged by the color of our skin but the content of our character.

Excellent question!

Assuming you actually want an answer to your initial question rather than the inevitable cacophony of "You're sooooo right!", here goes:

Initially, here in America, you were slaves. You were though of as little more than particularly smart work animals. Back then to say that you were the equal of a white man would be the same as saying a horse was equal to a person. Since then it has become apparent that Blacks are in fact just as capable of good and evil, brilliance and stupidity, beauty and ugliness as the rest of the human race.

Some people still have a hard time accepting this however, and is simply the stereotyping that comes with people grasping for evidence for their preconceived opinion. All of those things you mention that you "don't all" do or whatnot DO HAPPEN, not nearly all the time like you say but enough to give ammunition to those trying to make the case against you. Many people see you as inferior because they want to, and they will grasp at anything that looks like evidence in their favor.

That's where it comes from.

Your sentiments are absolutely spot on.

In some parts of Europe and the USA a disproportionate number of non white people populate the jails and poorer parts of society. There is a raging debate going on as to whether the environment they are 'nurtured' in causes antisocial behaviour leading to crime, or whether it is deep seated cultural. I doubt the answer is simple. But there can be no doubt, if everyone was given an equal chance to get on with absolutely no bar by colour or race, religion etc, the world would a much happier place for all of us.

I am so glad to hear someone say all this. I have noticed it too. I am not black, but a minority, and I feel so hurt when I see how many people out their hate anyone who isn't white. People think it's funny. They don't care about the fact that minorities contribute and that, yes, some of us have fallen into some pretty rough times, but it is all pushed on us by society. What really angers me however, is that some minority people accept this stuff. I go to a mostly white school and people are so racist there. it drives me nuts. they started asking a black girl why black people are all in gangs. i was sure she would respond with saying that not all blacks are in gangs, but instead she starts talking about how its fun to steal and about how you can't blame blacks for loving to kill. I was so furious. she shouldn't be spreading these stereotypes. Until we can all stand up for ourselves, everyone will always believe the awful stereotypes. All mexicans at my school hate me because I am in honors classes and they say that i am trying to be "white". So wanting a higher education is "WHITE"? All of this race stuff is just really getting out of hand.

I wonder why that happens too. Just because you don't look like every one else doesn't mean you have to be treated unfairly. Wasn't it the english way back that started the racism? It's almost the same thing with Hitler. He wanted to murder people because they weren't like him. I hate what people do to other people because they are different.

You're right alot of good things come from african americans.

If you cut me do I not bleed the same colour as you ?.

I am a redhead, and when in England I am called ginger - derogatory.

Fear, ignorance and jealousy is the usual reason.

You are right, a man is a man and should be treated with respect.
