i apreciate all the help on balanceing it.. but now i need help becuz i have no idea what type of reaction is. im thinking combustion only becuz it reacts with Oxygen. but in not sure cuz theres other factors. it doesnt match up to anything in my notes. please and thank you

There is one more point to add to this discussion. The reaction as described will work with dilute nitric acid. If the acid is concentrated, the "N" product will be NO2 and not NO.

We just did this reaction in our class lab and the brown fumes were very visible.

This is an acid -metal reaction. It is also a redox reaction in which Copper gets oxidised as it loses electrons (its oxidation number increases from 0 to +2 ) and Nitric acid gets reduced in that it gains electrons. Hope that helps!

It's not a combustion reaction. To be a combustion reaction you have to the the oxygen element by itself as a product. You do not have that. As for what reaction it is. I have no clue. sorry. : (
