I've had 2 hamsters when I was younger. They can make really lovely pets.
First off, get a decent sized cage. You need basic stuff to put in it: Sawdust for the lining, food bowl, food, exercise wheel.
You might want to get a hamster ball so you can let your little furry friend out of the cage, for a change of scenery and good exercise. Clean the cage at least 3 times a week, theres special sprays you can buy. Finally, I was advised that russian dwarf hamsters tend to be a little more vicious than other types, so you might want to avoid that kind. Good luck x

I used to have Chinese dwarf hamsters they were sooo adorable I had 3 girls, they were in the same cage and did not harm each other, but that's not always the case so be careful. Then I had another one that I don't remember the breed of, and through my experiences I know that they are very active, and need a big enough cage a wheel, and maybe something they can run through.

yes, i think i can......when i had a hamster he extremely loved those plastic tube things so buy a few of them, also hamsters love "yogurt drops" they might sell them at your local pet store, and make sure you put a small book on top of the cage lid because it's possible for them to get out.......hope i helped you out a little.........oh and Teddy Bear hamsters are really adorable just my opinion.

i used to have a mini hamster, and he was really nice, didn't bite, and was relatively easy to care for. i would reccomend one of those (they are also called dwarf hamsters) for your first one.

Hamsters tend to get mean after a few months. They start to bite after they have had 1 litter of babies and they have babies about every other week!!!!!
