it's a total joke! drugs are more readily available, and more of the population is using now than before!

Locking somebody up because they are addicted is inhumane. rehabilitation is a more humane approach to the problem.

Also, when you put a felony on someone's record because they were abusing pain pills is detrimental to the person, because they will not be able to get a job afterward.

The CIA is involved in importing drugs, also. CIA should stand for Cocaine Importing Agency.

I am a GIS professional, and anybody in my field knows that they could put a total stop to the importing of drugs if they really wanted to, but it seems our economy is dependent upon the drug money.

It's all about the money!! Who got these people addicted to pain pills in the first place...of course doctors who are nothing more than legalized drug pushers. Wasn't it Nixon and Hoover who introduced drugs to the public and then turned around and created the DEA and started "their" war on drugs in order to hide their own little dirty secrets. There's money in war of any kind but the money goes to the wrong people. These petty little laws they pass are all about making more money. It's a crime against the american people with the power they have to destroy their lives because of these laws but who can arrest them for this?

Our government likes to rail against abstract ideas that touch a people in a visceral, rather than direct or literal way. Who in this country doesn't know someone who's at least experimented with drugs? And if you don't know them directly you at least know OF them and how drugs may have affected them. You have previously formed an opinion on how bad they may or may not be and because of that you are deemed either "with us or against us". So we have a "war on drugs" instead of a "war on drug users and dealers" because it's easier to sell a war on an idea than a war on a specific group of people.

It's the same with the war on terror. You can't really fight an emotion with troops and tanks. But everyone can relate to what the word "terror" means and you inherently feel that it has to be stopped. Instead of calling it a war on radical Islamists, which is what is really is, it's more PC and more emotional to call it a "war on terror".

So the completely ineffective war on drugs will continue because it has marketing appeal that can be used in tense election times and political disputes. Until we start discussing things rationally, it will never end.

The war on drugs is a waste of money. Legalizing weed would solve a lot of problems with how we deal with the war on drugs.
