yes we do have oil in the us. Oil is the main component of gas and yes the us has a supply of gas in reserve. We do not use this though because it is an emergency reserve. Say every country in the world stopped selling us oil we would need to have our own supply of gas that would last a while so we are saving it for times like that, and with the amount we use each day in america, if we were to use these reserves under normal circumstances they would run out in a few weeks or months.

The territory of the United States was blessed with the extremely rich oilfields (Texas for instance), which have been joyously developed and exploited for well over a hundred years. The oil can be pumped up, refined into many different kinds of fuel, including gasoline.
Many many millionaires and billionaires were created from this industry, a powerful lobby in national and international politics.
Things progressed pretty steadily during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Americans built and drove huge cars and consumed vast quantities of gasoline, at prices much lower than the rest of the world paid (and pay). Cars are noticeably smaller outside north America, especially in Europe.
However, what with population growth and dwindling supplies both in the US and worldwide, prices are generally heading upwards and many countries take an interest now in securing supplies from overseas.
American is competing with other countries, to augment her supplies.
Cynics around the world thought and said that both Iraq 'wars' were fought to secure the Kuwait oilfields for 'the west' (ie. the USA).
Meanwhile there is a trend to build more efficient cars, cars which use other fuels (hydrogen, electricity, etc), smaller cars, hybrid cars, etc.
This is partly to cut down on careless and wasteful consumption and partly because of 'global warming'. It seems that burning up fossil fuels, like oil and coal, increases the amount of carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere, which leads to the so-called greenhouse effect, with more violent weather and higher temperatures, which means rise in sea-levels (not so good if you live on a low-lying piece of land near the ocean).
However, the oil lobbies continue to pressure governments to take care of their interests, including keeping taxes down and consumption up, as that keeps them profitable.

Yes we have oil and we are producing oil but we are not producing enough to meet are full needs. Some of our oil reserves are difficult to tap and may not be cost effective at the present to exploit. In some cases environmental concerns prevent us from tapping some sources of oil. There are no easy answers in this as there are a lot of trade offs. You can also throw into the mix politics, both parties, advocating one thing or the other to get votes, but which may not be the best choice in the long term.

Yes we have a lot of oil and refineries to make gasoline from that oil. In fact we are one of the leading oil producers in the world. The problem is that we consume so much gasoline and other oil products. We consume far more oil than we produce. That is why we have to buy oil from foreign countries.

We have gas yes...we can produce it in various areas by refining oil from other nations. I believe that you really meant do we have oil?
The answer to that is YES. We are one of the most oil rich nations on the plantet, however, partisan politics block us from getting most of it. The Alaskan wildlife preserve is a prime example. This streach of about 100,000 protected acres is rich with oil, however environmentalists say we can not drill there because it might hurt the environment. Oil drillers say they need less than 5,000 acres and can drill sideways under the ground to get to most of it...but yet the answer is no...off of the coast is another area, however still something bad "might happen"

Yes the USA produces like 40% of its own gasoline the rest we have to import as crude oil and we refine it ourselves. gasoline is produced from the distillation of crude oil along with Diesel Kerosene Heating oil and other fuel types. Oil is a commodity its prices are set on worldwide demand. the USA sells oil from Alaska to Japan, because its cheaper than to ship it to the USA. did you know that roads are made from Oil ? Asphalt ,and anything made of plastic, so can you imagine how much oil we have to import.

The U.S. produces gasoline (e.g., Gulf of Mexico, Alaska) but we are a net importer of petroleum.
