The duo John Lennon/Paul McCartney. They are the most successful musical collaboration of all time. Not only did they write most of the Beatles songs, but they also wrote for others. They worked together and fit together like no other team. Often one of the pair would add a so-called middle eight or bridge section to the other's verse and chorus. Lennon called it "Writing eyeball-to-eyeball", and "Playing into each other's noses".This approach of the Lennon/McCartney songwriting team - with elements of competitiveness and mutual inspiration as well as straightforward collaboration and creative merging of musical ideas - is often cited as a key reason for the Beatles' innovativeness and popular success.

The Lennon/McCartney team. They were both the most amazing writers and singers to grace this earth. They have written some of the most well known songs today including, "Hey Jude", "Imagine", "Give Peace a Chance", "I wanna hold your hand", and "Twist and Shout". They both deserve the credit for "most talented song writer ever", because they were a phenomeon, and will always be a phenomenon.

I'm with Dylan, but really
Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook
of the band Squeeze from
England writes very good songs.
It's concrete poetry.
The Elephant Ride
Difford/Tilbrook
Today is none of our concern
That rewarding cigarette
That burns slowly by the bed
Fills the room with mystery
The apple ripens on the tree
That protected seal of love
Broken by the flame of fun
Lying back with Exodus
In the arms of lovers trust
That romantic dance of light
From the curtain broken night
Shadows fall on mystery
Love has ripened here for me
Stubbing out the cigarette
I see the clothes beside the bed
As the half light of the day
Pulls the sheet up once again
As the phone hangs by the cord
As the streets begin to fill
There's no distance anymore
There's no wanting when you will
Will be sleeping through the day
As the world around us turns
As the phone hangs by the cord
Today is none of our concern

I would have to say that John Lennon is the most talented lyricist ever, Jim Morrison was number 2, and Bono is number 3.

Bob Dylan. There is no other writer who can keep with perfect sincerity, the originality and genius that Bob Dylan has. He has been the voice of two generations and his music will never fail to amaze me.

I definatley think of Michael Jackson has an superb voice and is ignored as being a music author. human beings see him extra as a dancer yet MJ is a triple possibility: Singer/Dancer/Songwriter..that's what makes him untouchable.
