I'm considering this move - is there anything I should know about PR/Press relations that I wouldn't know from journalism?

I know they are completely different fields and on opposite ends of the spectrum but at the same time a lot of PRs are ex-journos. I'm wondering how can I make this move?

Wow, Hillary sounds a little bitter in her answer!

I've just made that move myself. I had earned a good reputation as a journalist, won some awards and developed a good range of contacts in local and national media. All those things were a help.

I'd suggest going to some PR firms you respect and talking to the people there about opportunites.

And you don't need to be stunning and willing to "do anything it takes."

unless you are remarkably attractive, well educated, willing to do anything it takes, and have truly powerful cravings for extremely stressful and uncertain employment, you should not even consider it. otherwise, go girl or guy. girls have a better time of it. guys have to really have an uncanny talent that is rare in guys. tried it -- hated it.
