first person shakes hands with 33 other people.
second person shakes hands with 32 other people since he's already shaken hands with the first person.
third person shakes hands with 31 other people since he's already shaken hands with the first and second people.

so 33 + 32 + 31 +30 + 29....+ 1 = 561

Each of 34 people shakes hands with 33 other people. But remember that when you multiply 34 X 33, you are counting every handshake twice, once from the viewpoint of each each participant in each handshake. So you have to multiply 34 X 33 and then divide by 2. (34 X 33)/2 = 561 handshakes. This is just the number of possible combinations of 34 objects taken 2 at a time.

(Think of the simplest case when there are only 2 people, and everybody shakes hands with everybody else. Clearly there is only one handshake. Each of two people shake hands with one other, and multiplying 2 X 1 counts that single handshake twice, so the number of hankshakes is
(2 X 1)/2 = 1.)

Well they wouldn't be shaking there own hand so subtrack only 1 person from the 34 n u have your answer.33 if it was u shaking the class of 34 including you then u would be shaking the other 33 people there's hands. If u meant that all 34 including u shook each others hand then each person will shake 33 hands they each take a turn shaking each persons hand u didn't say only 1 hand shake per person so it would be 33 hand shake per person so 34 people plus 33 shakes each.So 33x34 n then u have your answer.
