You certainly can. Lavender will tolerate quite dry situations, and does not like being waterlogged, so make sure you get enough drainage in the pot. Choose a pot big enough for a good spread of roots....it will partly depend if you have a large or mini-variety of lavender.
Depending on where you are, you can leave it outside in the winter too.
It will flower best in a sunny spot, and attract bees and maybe butterflies.

You certainly can! The smell is lovely. What a nice addition to the house. There are several varieties some grow very tall and will not be suitable for indoor use. Check with a green house for a smaller variety that doesn't need frequent cutting. Lavender, once it grows, grows very quickly. Lavender is a known sleep aid, so if you have trouble sleeping put a sprig or two inside your pillow case.
