I have the free trial of Registry Mechanic and when I did a full system scan it found almost 300 problems! It could only fix about 20 on the trial version but if I register, [[buy the program for like $20, $25 i think...]] then I can fix the problems?? Is this worth buying??

No, don't buy it. There are alternatives that are just as good if not better

There is a whole list of products at major geeks. Reg Seeker, Easy Cleaner, RegScrub, and so on seem to be pretty good alternatives. You can check to see how each program is rated by reading next to the name. The last two information pieces are the number of ratings and the rating itself.

Also, make sure to make a backup of the registry keys you remove. Many programs do offer this ability. This is just in case something were to go wrong and an important key was deleted. That way you can replace the problematic key and go on your way :)

Try this application called CCleaner first. It removes unnecessary files as well as cleans up your registry. Its free, too. Whats the harm in trying it out before dropping $25. Honestly, I think registry cleaners are a joke. But this CCleaner removes gigabytes of worthless junk on your hard drive.

No, I have a better one for you, its cheap, $16 but its very very good. RegSupreme, it has never failed me, and works wonders on the registry. www.macecraft.com you will never regret it. I have used it for years on every computer I have owned - Win95, Win98, WinNt, Win2K, WinXP. it just works. run a freeware program to clean up computer first, CCleaner for example to delete unneeded files, no need to clog up computer with junk files. You can also find a 30 trial at MajorGeeks.com like the guy above me said.

There's little evidence that registry cleaners do anything much to help a computer.

But I do use them every now and again,

Right now I'm trying out Eusing (free):

I've found that most of those "problems" that these programs "fix" are not really problems. More like tidying up. Removing unused entries that probably aren't causing any issues whatsoever.

Up to you.
